An informant has told an official investigation that the UK left behind confidential technology allowing the militant group to track down local individuals who collaborated with international military.

Information Leak Puts Thousands at Risk

Person A, called Person A, stated that individuals impacted by the data leak were told to relocate and alter their contact details to protect themselves from the ruling authorities.

MPs are investigating the UK government's response of a serious breach of private information concerning nearly 19,000 individuals who had requested to relocate to the UK to avoid militant rule.

The Information Breach Was Discovered

A data file with their personal data, including identities, contact details and occasionally family information, was accidentally leaked by a worker stationed at special operations center in February 2022.

The leak came to light only in August 2023, when the names of several individuals who had sought to relocate to the UK surfaced on social media.

Preliminary research presented to the investigation indicated that approximately fifty relatives and associates of individuals impacted by the breach had been murdered.

A legal restriction about the incident was enacted in last year and restricted all details concerning it from being made public until mid-2025.

Given injunction limitations, the whistleblower and the non-governmental organization associated with told affected households they were assisting that they had “apprehensions that certain devices had been intercepted”.

“We advised that they change residence when possible and altered their phone numbers. These represented the crucial data that, if authorities acquired such data, would lead to identification and capture,” she said.

Disputed Conclusions

Person A contested that an official review performed by a former official had been incorrect to state that the acquisition of the information by the Taliban was “unlikely to substantially change present danger”.

“The crucial point is that these individuals are not confronting militant forces; they are in hiding. The primary issue involves former occupations.”

She detailed terrible violence experienced by concerned people, including electric shock torture, waterboarding, and violent assaults.

“We have had young kids who have had their arms broken to pressure the family to reveal locations,” she testified.
