Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman Marshawn Kneeland has passed away aged 24.

Kneeland was drafted by the Cowboys in the second round of the draft in the 2024 NFL Draft and appeared in 18 games for the team, with four starting appearances.

He scored his first touchdown in the Tuesday game to the Arizona Cardinals when he recovered a blocked punt.

"Marshawn was a beloved teammate and member of our organisation," the Dallas Cowboys said.

"Our thoughts and prayers regarding Marshawn are with his girlfriend Catalina and his family."

Kneeland was picked by the Cowboys with the 56th overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft after playing college football for Western Michigan.

His representative, Jonathan Perzley, said his "heart aches" for the passing of a player who "poured his heart" into each opportunity.

"I saw him strive his way from a aspiring young man at Western Michigan with a goal to being a esteemed pro for the Dallas Cowboys," Perzley said.

The NFL stated it is "deeply saddened" by the tragic event.
