Fans Demand Custody of Individual Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Loyal followers of Ariana Grande are urging that a individual who breached a barrier and grabbed the actress during yesterday's Wicked: For Good launch be taken into custody or removed from Singapore.
A circulating clip depicts the person identified as Johnson Wen bypassing camera operators and rushing toward Grande while the performers proceeded down a promenade accompanied by onlookers.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo immediately wrested the shocked actress away from Mr Wen, who was observed being led away of the premiere by guards.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "released after being taken in", though court documents showed that he was due to appear on Friday morning. It is uncertain if he was formally accused.
Record of Event Invasions
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Controversial Figure", has disrupted a concert or event. His Instagram feed includes clips of him disturbing other celebrity events, including rushing the platform at the artist's Sydney performance in earlier this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers concert in the same location last winter.
"Measures must be taken taken against him as this is obviously a legal violation," stated an Instagram follower, in a response to a video Mr Wen shared of his behavior.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" another Instagram user questioned.
Followers Voice Worry Over Grande's Safety
Many fans accused Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had discussed experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder after a devastating incident at the finale of her 2017 show in Manchester, killing 22 people and wounding many.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" commented a further message on Instagram.
A number of fans also questioned guards at the gathering for not being sufficiently alert; while others called for social media platforms to remove Mr Wen's content.
Aftermath and Event Details
In clips spreading on the internet, Grande appeared surprised when she was grabbed by the man. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen reassuring her while Mr Wen was escorted away by staff.
Grande has not issued a statement on the event, and the rest of the event carried on uninterrupted.
Hundreds of supporters had assembled in a crowd of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good regional premiere in a Singapore mall, including a number who had queued for as long as many hours before it commenced.
The motion picture, to be launched on November 21, is the follow-up of a dual interpretation of the acclaimed theatrical show Wicked, which revolves around the surprising relationship between two contrasting witches.
The musical itself is a derivative of the twentieth-century children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the good witch Glinda, was adorned in a light pink sparkling outfit at the premiere while Erivo, who acts as the villainous character, wore a sleek black dress decorated with roses.
They were alongside cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the top-earning film of last year in the UK, and earned a dozen Academy Award nods, earning two for outstanding attire and set decoration.
