People have gathered around the country to remember 24 months since the Hamas-led attack on October 7th, 2023, as negotiations continued in the neighboring country over a conclusion to the conflict in Gaza.

The attack saw more than 1,200 people dead and 251 others taken away to Gaza as hostages. It was the most deadliest day for Jewish people since the Second World War.

Israel responded by initiating a defensive operation in Gaza which has killed more than 67,000 people, according to the area's Hamas-run health ministry. Its statistics are considered accurate by the United Nations and other global organizations.

"The bloodthirsty enemies have struck forcefully, but they have not defeated us," Benjamin Netanyahu added on Tuesday.

He also promised to "realize all the objectives of the war: the release of all the abducted, the destruction of the Hamas government and the promise that Gaza will never again present a danger to Israel".

Commemorative Gatherings Across Israel

The national leadership postponed state commemorations until mid-October - after the end of the Jewish High Holiday season - but ceremonies still took place throughout the country on Tuesday.

A memorial ceremony for the relatives of Israelis who died in the Hamas incident was conducted in Tel Aviv. Organized by the affected families, it was televised on Israeli television channels.

A period earlier, a silent tribute was held around the country.

Ceasefire Meetings in Egypt

Simultaneously, both sides' negotiating teams convened in the North African coastal city of Sharm el-Sheikh for a follow-up session of third-party negotiations to examine the conditions of the agreement.

A senior Palestinian official involved in the negotiations said that an evening round of indirect talks began at 19:00 Cairo time.

The source said the day's discussions finished without concrete outcomes, due to disagreements over the recommended Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas seeks to make certain Israel does not restart combat after the opening period of the deal.

He commented that the discussions are "tough and have still not produce any significant progress," but mentioned that facilitators are making efforts to narrow the gaps between the two sides.

Essential Points in Discussions

  • An enduring halt to fighting
  • The trade of the hostages still detained by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The pullout of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Plans for humanitarian aid deliveries
  • Future governance of the territory

Public Feeling

In Tel Aviv's Hostages Square previously, 29-year-old Hagar - whose brother lived through the assault on the outdoor event, where hundreds were killed and numerous more were abducted by Hamas fighters - explained: "Nowhere feels like home anymore and until all the hostages return not a single person will feel safe."

"After we see everyone home once more, we can breathe once more. Then we can begin to recover," she concluded.

Near the leader's residence in the capital, people assembled to express their backing for the loved ones of the abducted. Israel states nearly fifty stay in detention in Gaza, 20 of whom are considered to be living.

Activist one woman remarked: "We need do whatever arrangement required for the hostages to be released. But we really want assurances that we will be secure."

Opinion polls now consistently show that approximately seventy percent of the population want the war to conclude in exchange for the liberation of the hostages.

Palestinian Situation

At the area of Nova festival, mourners assembled to honor the dead.

From there, the noise of Israeli air strikes and artillery could be detected just a short distance away in Gaza, where observers reported the severe Israeli shelling carried on.

In the urban center, air and artillery strikes were reported in the early hours of Tuesday in the western Tal al-Hawa, Rimal and locality neighbourhoods and in the east side district of that sector, as well the settlement to the northwest.

"Once the dusk falls, the fear appears with it," relocated Gaza City resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose 17-year-old son was died by an Israeli air strike previously, described.

"We are afraid of the attacks. All the night we are resting together, clinging, particularly my little child who places his head on me the entire evening."

"Continuously we look at the updates to see developments. And I'm afraid that this ceasefire will not be finalized and that the war will resume to us."

Medical Emergency

The medical facility in Gaza City announced it had accepted the corpses of half dozen people by the afternoon, including three who lost their lives in an Israeli strike in the southern al-Sabra neighbourhood.

Nasser hospital in the south region of Khan Younis reported two more victims had been transported. One of them was killed by Israeli troops while attempting to get help to the south region, health workers said.

The region's health ministry announced a significant number of the {territ
