Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for United

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Her exit from Bayern was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant boost to the team's attacking options. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

• Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
• She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further activity:

1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
