A renowned South African media personality and entertainer has been murdered in the country's largest city Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a nation struggling with entrenched crime.
Warrick Stock, widely recognized as DJ Warras, was attacked in the downtown area on the afternoon of Tuesday.
Authorities reported the forty-year-old presenter was confronted by a trio of assailants, one of whom opened fire on him before running away.
The reason behind the incident remains unclear and no arrests have taken place, police said.
Details of the Attack
Police revealed that Stock was ambushed as he was exiting a building close to the Carlton Centre.
He had devoted time at the building managing the installation of safety equipment, which had been illegally inhabited by unknown people, it was reported.
"The report indicates the victim was approached by three unknown suspects after he parked his car, and they shot at him before escaping on foot," authorities confirmed.
Surveillance tape reportedly depicted a suspect with dreadlocks and clad in what appeared to be a guard's attire firing shots on Stock before fleeing.
The DJ attempted to flee after he was shot but collapsed across the street.
Police added that Stock had an unused firearm and it was not a robbery during the assault.
