That Gory Cartoon Film Ending That Lingers Viewers
Out of all the adult-oriented cartoon movies I have ever watched, no other has remained with me as much as the fear-filled conclusion of a graphically gory and highly provocative 2022 movie Unicorn Wars.
In 2015’s, the Spanish writer-director developed a dark, somber , frequently brutal world with several minor , desolate glimmers of optimism.
Although Unicorn Wars seems like it came from a drive to push animation even more, the filmmaker clarified that it was rather an attempt to communicate a universal, multicultural theme regarding “the mutual source of every conflict.”
That message is conveyed via a group of brightly hued teddy bears , openly based on a well-known series of lovable figures.
Being raised in a community centered on militarism and the war machine, a lot of these animals are fixated on exterminating unicorns, due to a holy book which states the bears they were once kings of the forest, before the unicorns expelled them.
Others did not entirely bought into the propaganda, , prefer to experiment with substances or fornicate in the woods.
In contrast to their cuddly counterparts, these colorful critters have visible genitals , clear sex drives.
For a particular notably brutal, skeptical animal, the character Bluey, the battle against the unicorns becomes a road to power — and specifically to authority above his gentler, kinder brother the character Tubby.
This bear behaves aggressively and an apparent sociopath , and as horror overcomes his group and takes his comrades individually, he seizes more and more power personally, via progressively bloody, harmful methods.
Meanwhile, the horned creatures are enduring their own nightmare, as a growing, destructive monster in their habitat.
“Initially, it seems like a comedy,” the director stated. “But then it evolves into a more intense and melancholic film. And by the end, it’s a terrifying movie.”
The Unicorn Wars begins similar to among the quirky features from a renowned filmmaker, that uncover a mischievous joy in allowing drawn beings curse, fire weapons, or sex each other up.
Afterward it becomes something more like a darker work by that same director, with increasingly graphic violence and a tangible relation to the real tragedy of conflict.
By the end, it is a full-on extreme drama massacre.
The horror that makes the film a perfect Halloween watch starts a lot earlier than that description suggests.
Unicorn Wars is ideal for the devoted fans of gore, for fans of graphic films who wish to see something they’ve never viewed until now, and can endure a plot that offers absolutely no punches.
Watch it in a dimly lit space free from interruptions, and the finale will burrow into your mind and stay with you.
