One of the original creators behind the well-known frozen dessert company Ben & Jerry's has stated that parent company the multinational conglomerate stopped the launch for an innovative pro-Palestinian frozen dessert product.

Ben Cohen, who co-founded the company alongside his partner, announced that he plans to personally create the controversial product within a personal collection highlighting issues Ben & Jerry's has been prevented from addressing publicly.

Ongoing Conflict Between Creators versus Parent Company

The recent development deepens the ongoing tension among the world-famous ice cream maker with Unilever, the UK-based packaged goods corporation that acquired the ice cream brand for over two decades.

The co-founders maintain that the parent company and their ice cream division the Magnum brand improperly prevented their company against "honouring its social mission".

The Fruit Flavor becoming an Emblem of Support

Mr. Cohen revealed through an Instagram video that he's developing an innovative watermelon-flavored frozen dessert, asking for consumer ideas regarding the product's name plus additional components.

“I'm doing what they were prevented from doing,” the founder declared from his kitchen. “I'm making a watermelon-flavored ice cream that advocates for permanent peace for Palestinians and calls for repairing the damage that was done there.”

This particular fruit has emerged as an emblem for solidarity with the Palestinian people due to its coloration, that closely resemble the colors in the Palestinian flag – red, green, black and white.

Previous Activism plus Current Changes

In 2021, Ben & Jerry's refused to sell its products in territories occupied by Israel, resulting in the parent company selling their Israel business to a local licensee, thus allowing ongoing distribution within disputed territories.

This upcoming dessert series is being created through Ben's Best, the activist ice cream brand that was first established several years back to support ex- political contender Senator Sanders with the flavor "Bernie's Return".

Leadership Changes and Upcoming Intentions

The founder stated that he plans to develop other ice cream flavors that address concerns which Ben & Jerry's was silenced from addressing publicly due to corporate restrictions.

The announcement comes after co-founder Jerry Greenfield stepped down his position at the company recently, after decades of involvement, mentioning worries that the company's autonomy had been compromised after corporate moves to restrict its social activism.

At that time, Ben Cohen remarked that "Jerry has strong compassion and the ongoing dispute with our parent company was breaking it."

"My heart leads me to continue to work within the organization to advocate for its independence so that the company can achieve its ethical purpose, the principles that it was founded on while upholding for decades," he told journalists.
