This latest animated series, the most recent animated series from the beloved role-playing group, revealed an exciting introductory sequence. It showcases our favorite group of outcasts, misfits, and criminals fighting hard and taking names, while teasing at multiple agonizing backstories for characters including the voice actor's mage Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, the character Fjord.

Overall, the opening appears stunning. However, I felt that an element was lost in the song choice.

This sequence employs "Welcome to the Continent", a truly stellar composition composed by artist the talented musician. It's a track originating from the official score of that title, the second one released by Critical Role Productions LLC's record label their music brand. It's a wonderful sentimental choice, and I suspect that fans of the second campaign will appreciate its inclusion.

Personally, The Mighty Nein's opening fails to capture the excitement and energy that was part of the second campaign's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", written by singer-songwriter Jason Charles Miller, became an immediate hit in my view when it was initially unveiled in 2015, and it improved further when cast member Sam Riegel wrote words to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.

Including singing from one actress, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the track was catchy and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't seen the follow-up series yet, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my device. It's a song that excites you before you start an installment of adventurous fun.

The show's opening with "the new song" fails to hit the same chords in my opinion. It's a grand composition, but from what I know of this party, I can't help but feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.

Naturally, the creators has stated that the animated show will have some surprises and variations from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its intro appears as one of them.
