The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.
Although not quite at the same level as pardoning festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued since the commencement of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a long and happy life without fear.”
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The swine, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – originating from a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to begin the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.
“It represents the essence of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Each year, we are delighted to mark tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
